"Messina è una bellissima città con splendidi panorami dai colli fino al mare. C’è un imbarazzo della scelta sulle spiagge. Ho apprezzato particolarmente l’architettura contemporanea modernista ed è una meta imprescindibile per chi cerca itinerari diversi dal solito immaginario siciliano. "

"Messina is an under-rated destination. It provides a great hub for people wishing to access the Aoelian Islands and for those who also wish to explore the Taormina/Catania/Syracuse coast. While the city lacks some of the heritage buildings and ancient sites found in other cities in Sicily it offers a wonderful regional museum and some amazing beach experiences close to the city. The people are friendly and the city feels very safe: it is certainly one of the cleanest and most environmentally aware cities in Sicily. As a cyclist (but not with my bike on this trip) it seems like a good place to explore by bike - the bike paths look well designed and quite extensive. My only negative comments really revolve around the excessive noise made by motorbikes (and some cars) as they travel very quickly along the relatively wide streets especially along the waterfront. Some traffic calming measures might help this. It was also a pity that the waterfront park developments have not yet been completed - making it difficult to access the waterfront in some places."
